There are a few different options when it comes to finding care for your ferrets while you’re on vacation. You could ask a friend or family member to take care of them, hire a pet sitter, or board them at a local ferret shelter.

Alternatively, you could take them with you on vacation. This option is best if you’re going to be staying in a pet-friendly hotel or rental property.

However, if these ideas don’t fit your vacation plans, don’t worry! There are still plenty of things you can do to keep your ferrets entertained while on vacation.

What do you do with a ferret when you go on vacation?

When planning a vacation, many pet owners must make arrangements for their furry friends.

For those who own a ferret, this can present a bit of a challenge, as not all hotels and resorts allow these small mammals on the premises.

The good news is that there are a number of options available for ferret owners who want to enjoy a worry-free vacation.

One option is to board the ferret at a local pet hotel. This can be an expensive option, but it ensures that the ferret will have access to food, water, and playtime while you are away.

Another option is to find a friend or family member who is willing to care for your ferret while you are gone.

In fact, ferrets in my opinion should be kept in pairs, because most of them are social creatures by nature, so this option has the added benefit of giving your ferret a friend to play with while you’re away.

That’s what I discuss in my most recent article, which you should read.

Can you travel with a ferret?

Ferrets are legal to travel within the United States, as well as in most other countries. However, some airline companies do have restrictions on what animals they will allow on board their planes. It is best to check with the airline before traveling with your ferret.

Ferrets typically travel very well in enclosed carriers and should not cause any problems for the other passengers on the flight.

Just be sure to bring along plenty of food and water for your furry friend, and make sure that your ferret is up-to-date on all of its vaccinations and medications.

However, if you’re planning to travel by car then you can take your ferret with you provided that you make a few preparations first.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Get your ferret ready for the trip

Assuming that you’re taking your ferrets with you on vacation, the first thing you’ll need to do is make sure that they’re comfortable with traveling.

This means getting them used to being in their carrier and being in the car for extended periods of time.

Before your vacation, spend some time with your ferrets in the car going around your neighborhood so they can get used to the sensation and sound.

Stop frequently

When you’re traveling with your ferrets, it’s important to stop frequently so they can stretch their legs and use the restroom.

You should also take this opportunity to give them a little snack and some water.

If you’re going to be traveling for more than a few hours, it’s a good idea to get a travel cage for your ferrets so they have plenty of room to move around.

Make sure the accommodations are pet-friendly

If you’re staying in a hotel or rental property, it’s important to make sure that they’re pet-friendly.

This means researching the policies and making sure that there are no restrictions on pets.

It’s also a good idea to call ahead and let the staff know that you’ll be traveling with your ferrets so they can be prepared for your arrival.

Are you traveling for camping?

This will help them feel comfortable and secure in their new surroundings.

It’s also a good way to keep them from getting bored while you’re away from home.

Avoid long hours of travel

Another important thing to keep in mind when traveling with your ferrets is to avoid traveling for more than twelve hours at a time.

This can be tough if you’re going on a long road trip, but it’s important to make sure that your ferrets are comfortable and not too stressed out.

If you have to travel for more than twelve hours, it’s a good idea to stop and stay in a pet-friendly hotel or rental property for the night.

Must have supplies for your trip

This includes their food, water, bowls, bedding, litter box, and toys.

You should also bring along a first-aid kit in case of any emergencies.

If you’re going to be traveling for more than a few hours, it’s a good idea to get a travel cage for your ferrets.

This will give them plenty of room to move around and stretch their legs.

It’s also important to make sure that the travel cage is big enough for them to stand up and turn around and yet small enough to fit in the car, in fact, I don’t think you’ll be able to fit the nation cage unless you have an RV!

Start by picking some of your ferret’s favorite toys. If your ferret is food-motivated, you can also bring along some of its favorite treats.

Can ferrets be left alone for a week?

In general, ferrets should not be left alone for more than a few days at a time. If you need to leave town for a week or longer, it is best to arrange for someone to take care of your ferret in your absence.

Ideally, this person should be someone who is familiar with ferrets and their care requirements.

They should also be able to provide your ferret with plenty of attention and playtime. Leaving a ferret alone for a week is often too stressful for the animal, and in my opinion, can be risky.
